Populace’s Purpose of Education Index found that most people think preparing for college or university should not be the end-goal of K-12 education. In fact, when survey respondents were asked to rank 57 priorities for K-12 education, college preparation came in at 47. Number one? Developing practical, tangible skills and outcomes.
There’s a growing understanding that “college for all” is the wrong model for K-12 education. With federal student loan debt currently at $1.6 trillion and 55% of recent college graduates feeling that a bachelor’s degree doesn’t give them a competitive advantage in the workforce, it’s not surprising that more paths, such as directly entering the job market or considering military service, are increasingly popular.
Students can make their best-fit postsecondary plan only if they fully understand all the options available to them when K-12 schooling ends. That’s why it’s critical to give them the resources they need to thoroughly research their choices. Robust future planning tools also help improve equity and social mobility for underrepresented populations.
The new features in PowerSchool Naviance CCLR are designed to expand career exploration opportunities for students and help them access more tools that further connect them with postsecondary paths. These improvements are all available to Naviance clients within the Naviance CCLR platform at no additional cost.
